Charleston, SC, (May 25, 2016) —   Zubie, a leading connected-car platform and telematics provider serving enterprises, small businesses and consumers, today announced it has secured $6 million in additional funding.

Melody Capital Partners, along with existing Zubie investors OpenAir Equity Partners, Castrol innoVentures, Comporium, Nokia Growth Partners and Magna, participated in the financing. This new funding further validates Zubie’s strength and growth, and the appeal of its robust platform to the insurance, automotive, fleet and other enterprise sectors.

The additional funding will be targeted toward further scaling to meet the growing demand for Zubie solutions for enterprise customers, enhancements to the core Zubie and ZinC Open API platforms, feature innovation, and expanding operations and staff.

Since its market entry in 2012, Zubie has formed a number of partner and customer relationships. Top-tier insurance carriers, large and small-business fleet operators, and mobile carriers have chosen to leverage Zubie’s tailored telematics solutions to power their businesses and enhance their customer acquisition and retention. The company also continues to lead telematics solutions innovation for the automotive dealer and service industry through its partnership with Castrol innoVentures.

Zubie’s expertise in integrating its cloud platform, vehicle and driver data analytics, and aftermarket OBD-based devices has proven successful in meeting the needs of its enterprise customers in several vertical industries, and is also paving the way for telematics data monetization. Additionally, since the launch of its ZinC Open API platform, the company has attracted a diverse set of developers and partners creating apps leveraging Zubie’s platform and vehicle data.

“The telematics and connected-car industry is expanding globally, and we are well positioned to continue our growth,” said Tim Kelly, Zubie, CEO. “Since the inception of the company, we have established leadership in innovation, tailored industry solutions, and the strong execution required of the enterprise marketplace. Today’s funding announcement further validates our strategy and our investors’ confidence in our direction and potential.”

“Melody is excited to invest in Zubie,” said Omar Jaffrey, managing partner of Melody. “Our team has a long history of investment and involvement in the telematics industry, and we believe there is tremendous opportunity for Zubie to create and deliver compelling solutions for this growing, global marketplace.”

Activity Insights – New Zubie Business Features

We are excited to announce new Zubie Business features available today, aimed to help companies deliver better service to their customers.

Insights into Customer Visits

Zubie now collects and analyzes visit activity for saved Places.  Zubie tracks any activity inside of a place’s geofence – whether the vehicle stopped or not.

Do these customer inquiries sound familiar?

  • When did your driver actually show up last week?
  • How many times did you come here last month?
  • Can you give me a report on how much time your company spent at my stores?

For ad-hoc lookups…customers can use our Live Map to search a Place lookup recent activity.

For historical insights and a fleet-wide perspective…customers can use the new Stats by Place Dashboard. The dashboard can be used to generate a proof of service report for your customers, including visit details like the visit date/time, driver, duration for the last year.

Customers can also sign up for a scheduled weekly or monthly report that summarizes activity for the top places.  Learn more about this (and other ways to use the Dashboard) in our Product Guide.

Segment your Fleet using Vehicle and Driver Tags

For larger (or growing) businesses, the new Vehicle and Driver Tags are a powerful way to break down a fleet into groups.  Tags can be used throughout Zubie – to filter what vehicles are monitored in Live Map, or to analyze fleet performance in the Dashboard.

Possible scenarios for tags:

  • Grouping vehicles by office or location
  • Grouping by vehicle purpose…sales vs. delivery
  • Assigning vehicles to dispatchers
  • Flagging “high risk” drivers
  • Or whatever unique requirements you might have for your business

Learn more in our Help Center on setting up and using tags.

Zubie scores a ride in the Prius and celebrates Earth Week

Zubie recently played its part for clean and smart driving in the San Francisco Bay area, participating in Toyota’s Prius Pick Me Up Earth Week celebration. For two days, April 20, 21, Toyota offered commuters Casual Carpool Pickups — free rides to-and-from the East Bay and San Francisco in the all-new 2016 Prius. The event was a nod to Toyota’s leadership in the hybrid space – Toyota (and Lexus) have twice the number of hybrids on the road over any other OEM.

. Plus, the Bay Area is known for its highly dense Prius population, with more than 217,000 of the popular hybrid vehicles sold in the Bay Area since 2001.

Zubie’s role? We were honored to be asked to install our Zubie with WiFi device in each of the 17 Prius cars ferrying the commuters around. As a result, lucky riders enjoyed a convenient, hassle-free ride to or from work and — courtesy of Zubie — access to super-speedy WiFi powered by Verizon. An easy commute coupled with quick WiFi access to shop, surf the web or do a little work — what a great way to spend your ride time.

Plus, as any carpool aficionado knows, even a simple carpool can be a bear to coordinate, so Toyota took advantage of Zubie’s always-on, cellular-powered GPS capabilities to keep track of all the vehicles and coordinate rides efficiently.

All told, the Bay Area Prius carpool tally was 43 pick-ups/drop-offs per day which amounted to 430 total riders. Not too shabby considering Bay Area traffic.

Capping the Earth Week festivities, area Toyota owners broke a Guinness World Record on Earth Day with the biggest parade of hybrid vehicles ever organized. On Northern California’s Alameda Air Field, 332 Toyota Prius owners made a parade lap to celebrate Earth Day, and set the new record.

Congratulations to Toyota for the record and ongoing Prius/hybrid victories. Zubie salutes you for promoting, clean, green driving!
